BarrowHill Roundhouse
Barrow Hill was rescued from certain demolition in 1991 by a group of designated Rail enthusiast’s, BR had no further use for the buildings and nearby railway yards. Over the last 18 years they brought it back to its former glory and in the process have given us a train photographers heaven!
Throughout each year the special galas feature working steam and diesel locomotives, which are often joined by a variety of visiting locomotives off the mainline. The roundhouse is open most Saturdays & Sundays as-well as the special galas….. It really is a fascinating place to visit. Its also becoming a popular place for other railways to store out of ticket locos, thus of keeping them out of the elements until restoration is due……Pay it a visit you wont be disappointed!
A Russ Hillier Charter on the Friday before the weekend gala. The weather was superb as was the line up. This was my first visit to Barrow Hill and probably the highlight of the year to date. For a photographer who enjoys more that just the front 3/4 shot, Barrow Hill is a playground.....The light which falls through the windows is fascinating to look at never mind photograph. I need more visits to complete what i want from there...
