West Somerset Railway

The West Somerset  is the longest preserved railway in the Uk  and is a true GWR branch line, its very similar to the Severn Valley in terms of fascination but the WSR trundles through the lovely Quantock hills as it works its way towards the coast @ Watchet then follows the Bristol Channel coastline via Blue Anchor on its way to the seaside resort of Minehead. Its ten stations all vary and provide many opportunities for the photographer. The Coaching stock is of a very high standard and most resident locos are of those that were common with GWR branch lines…A wonderful experience with endless photographic locations. It has to be up there with the best. I’d like to spend some more time  here in the future.

WestSomersetRailway 21stDec2008

A day spent with 2 friends & Don Bishop on his home turf. The Weather was awful...The dull low cloud proved difficult, though short sunny intervals did appear in the afternoon they never coincided with a train movement!!!! How many times does that happen? Anyhow we had a good day with some banter. Highlight of the day was watching (trying to photograph) 6024 accelerating up Whiteball Bank nr Wellington on the Yuletide Torbay Express........Added 10thJan2009
